Walk to West Berlin is a very special song to me. My mum’s family is originally from West Berlin, and when they visited relatives in the East, my grandma would always smuggle things over the border. Luckily, she never got caught! But she told me a lot of stories about growing up in Berlin right after the war and that’s how I got inspired to write this one. It’s also my grandma’s picture on the single cover!
The film “Zwischen uns die Mauer” (The wall between us) came out at the same time that I wrote WTWB and I’ve heard of it because the lead actress Lea Freund went to school with me in Dreieich! She got me in touch with the director who let us use the film to create a music video. I think it fits really well together! What do you think?
